The musical, with book and lyrics by David Lindsay-Abaire and music by Jeanine Tesori, premiered on Broadway the following year, winning five Tony Awards including Best Musical, Best Book of a Musical and Best Original Score. It received its British premiere at Hampstead Theatre, London, in 2026, directed by Michael Longhurst and starring Olivier Award-winning Maria Friedman in the title role.
