Her sister Corran is also headed to France where the wounds of war are still fresh for many, including her fiancé Rob Campbell. Rob, one of the few surviving members of a celebrated Scottish rugby team, has been profoundly marked by his time as a surgeon on the front line. What comes next for each of them? Flora Johnston was inspired by the poignant story of the pre-WWI Scottish rugby team which was decimated in the trenches, as well as the letters written by her great-aunt who was a typist at the Paris Peace Conference.
