Beatrix Potter's best-loved The Tale of Peter Rabbit told in ancient Egyptian hieroglyphs. Beatrix Potter (1866-1943) was an English writer, illustrator, natural scientist and conservationist best known for her children’s books featuring animals, most notably The Tale of Peter Rabbit. Peter Rabbit’s namesake was a Belgian buck rabbit called Peter Piper who was “bought at a very tender age, in the Uxbridge Road, Shepherd’s Bush, for an exorbitant sum of 4/6.” He was to prove a sound investment, as Potter’s “affectionate companion” inspired one of the world’s best-loved fictional characters and earned his owner enduring international acclaim. After Beatrix Potter’s death, her folio of The Tale of the Flopsy Bunnies came into the possession of the British Museum.
